Sultan of Selangor 66th Birthday

The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, yesterday said that it was meaningless for Selangor to be recognised as a  developed state but mired in turbulence due to political, religious and social conflicts.
The Sultan said Selangor would slack and its multiracial society might be living in fear and uneasiness if they did not work together at preserving peace.

“I advise all the communities in Selangor to always be patient and not to hurt each other’s feelings.  “Do not for once slander each other as this can cause suspicions and tension among the people, hence creating turmoil in the state when the people are unable to live together in peace,” Sultan Sharafuddin said at the investiture ceremony in conjunction with his 66th birthday celebration at Istana Alam Shah, here, yesterday.
The Sultan also urged the Malays in the state to be united in defending Islam and never be divided due to having different political ideologies.

In his speech, the Sultan also recorded his appreciation for the security forces including the police in carrying out their duties with full dedication to maintain security and order in the state.
“I hope the police will intensify efforts to reduce crime rates in Selangor,” he said.  Sultan Sharafuddin also said that there were more recipients of state awards and medals this year compared to last year, but the number did not exceed the quota.

The Sultan who has ruled Selangor for 10 years now, hoped the award recipients would continue contributing to and serving the people, institutions and state well.

Earlier, the Sultan conferred awards and medals on 110 of the 113 recipients. Tengku Aris Temenggong Selangor heads the list of the recipients.
