The differences between Tuanku, Tunku and Tengku.


Tuanku, Tunku and Tengku might be confusing for some of us because they have quite same pronunciation.

Tuanku is used by the rulers who do not use the title Sultan like Yang di Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan and Raja of Perlis. Additionally, Yang di-Pertuan Agong, the Supreme Ruler of Malaysia is using the title Tuanku.

Tunku and Tengku are the hereditary titles in family that was inherited from their father who has the royal blood.

Tunku is used by the prince or princess from the royal family of Johor, Kedah and Negeri Sembilan.

Tengku is used by the prince or princess from the royal family of Selangor, Pahang, Kelantan and Terengganu.
